Maintenance Manager – Ontario – Automated Warehouse
Brantford, Ontario, Canada
Full-Time | Permanent
Day Shift | Monday to Friday
A major automated distribution and production facility in Brantford, Ontario is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager / Maintenance Supervisor to lead the resident engineering function supporting a highly automated operational environment.
This is a key leadership appointment within a flagship automation site incorporating advanced materials handling, ASRS, robotics, conveyors, pallet handling systems, automated cranes, stackers/destackers, scanning technologies, and integrated warehouse automation systems.
The successful individual will take responsibility for the day-to-day leadership, coordination, and performance of the resident maintenance engineering team operating across multiple shift patterns within a live uptime-critical environment.
The role is expected to lead a team of approximately 10–12 engineers across rotating operational shifts, whilst the successful candidate themselves will primarily operate on a Monday to Friday day-based schedule.

The role of Maintenance Manager
The Maintenance Manager / Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the resident engineering operation supporting the automated facility.
Responsibilities will include:
- Leading and coordinating the resident maintenance engineering team
- Managing engineering coverage across multiple operational shifts
- Driving engineering standards, accountability, and team performance
- Coordinating reactive maintenance and escalation response activities
- Overseeing planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programmes
- Supporting system reliability and continuous improvement initiatives
- Managing engineering priorities within a live operational environment
- Ensuring maintenance documentation, reporting, and shift handovers are completed accurately
- Supporting engineering development, coaching, and team performance
- Building strong working relationships with internal operational teams and customer stakeholders
- Acting as a professional ambassador for the business on site
- Supporting the development and implementation of engineering systems, processes, and best practices which can be standardised and rolled out across wider operations
- Driving consistency, structure, and continuous improvement across the engineering function
- Remaining adaptable and open to operational change within a growing automation environment
- Maintaining high standards of health, safety, and compliance across engineering activities
Automation Environment
The engineering team supports a broad range of automation technologies including:
- ASRS / mini-load crane systems
- Conveyor systems (belt, roller, chain, accumulation, divert)
- Robotics and automated palletising systems
- Automated pallet handling systems
- Stackers/destackers
- Automated wrapping systems
- Barcode, scanning, and inline automation technologies
- PLC-controlled industrial automation systems

Experience & Skills required for Maintenance Manager
- Previous experience leading maintenance or engineering teams within automated environments
- Strong understanding of reactive and preventative maintenance operations
- Experience managing engineering activity across multiple shifts or operational windows
- Ability to coordinate priorities within uptime-critical environments
- Strong fault-finding and engineering understanding across automated systems
- Experience working closely with operations and production teams
- Ability to build strong internal relationships and maintain customer confidence on site
- Experience implementing engineering processes, standards, or operational improvements
- Understanding of health & safety procedures including LOTO and safe systems of work
- Strong communication, organisation, and leadership capability
- Ability to manage escalations, prioritise workloads, and maintain engineering standards
- Open-minded, adaptable, and comfortable operating within evolving operational environments
Desirable Experience
- ASRS / automated crane systems
- WCS / WMS environments
- PLC and controls exposure
- Robotics and palletising systems
- Resident or on-site engineering support models
- Food or cold-chain operational environments
Qualifications
Candidates may come from mechanical, electrical, or electromechanical engineering backgrounds including:
- Apprenticeship-trained engineers
- Industrial maintenance leadership backgrounds
- Mechanical or electrical engineering qualifications
- Automation or controls-related experience
Additional certifications such as LOTO, Working at Height, MEWP, Confined Space, or First Aid are advantageous.
