Resident Maintenance Engineer – Ontario

A major automated distribution and production facility in Brantford, Ontario is continuing to expand its resident engineering function and is seeking multiple Resident Maintenance Engineers to join the permanent on-site engineering team.

This is an opportunity to join a flagship, highly automated operation supporting a complex live production and warehouse environment incorporating ASRS, robotics, conveyors, pallet handling systems, automated cranes, stackers/destackers, scanning, wrapping, and integrated materials handling technologies.

The site represents a major long-term investment and forms a key part of a wider strategic automation programme, making this an excellent opportunity for engineers seeking long-term progression, exposure to advanced automation technology, and involvement in a high-profile engineering environment.

We are interested in speaking with candidates across multiple levels of seniority, from strong hands-on maintenance engineers through to more experienced team leadership profiles.

The Role of Resident Maintenance Engineer

The Resident Maintenance Engineer will form part of the permanent on-site engineering team responsible for supporting the performance, reliability, and continuous operation of the automated facility.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Reactive mechanical and electrical fault finding across automated systems
  • Planned preventative maintenance (PPM)
  • Supporting commissioning and operational ramp-up activities
  • Diagnosing faults across conveyors, robotics, cranes, pallet systems, scanners, and automated handling equipment
  • Safe isolation and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures
  • Working at height across elevated automation systems and structures
  • Supporting system optimisation and reliability improvements
  • Producing clear maintenance reports and fault documentation
  • Working closely with operations, controls, and engineering teams within a fast-paced live environment

Automation Environment

Engineers will gain exposure to a wide range of automated technologies including:

  • ASRS / mini-load crane systems
  • Conveyor systems (belt, roller, chain, accumulation, divert)
  • Robotics and automated palletising systems
  • Automated pallet handling systems
  • Stackers/destackers
  • Automated wrapping systems
  • Barcode, scanning, and inline automation technologies
  • PLC-controlled industrial automation systems

  • Automated warehousing
  • Materials handling
  • Manufacturing automation

  • Distribution / logistics automation
  • Industrial maintenance environments

Experience & Skills

  • Mechanical and/or electrical maintenance experience within automated environments
  • Fault finding on conveyors, automation systems, robotics, or industrial machinery
  • Experience working within live production or distribution operations
  • Understanding of safe isolation and LOTO procedures
  • Comfortable working at height within industrial environments
  • Ability to work independently during breakdown situations
  • Experience supporting uptime-critical operations

Desirable Experience for Resident Maintenance Engineer

  • ASRS/automated crane systems
  • WCS/WMS environments
  • PLC fault finding
  • Robotics and palletising systems
  • Resident or on-site engineering support models
  • Food or cold-chain environments

Qualifications

Candidates may come from either mechanical, electrical, or electromechanical backgrounds including:

  • Apprenticeship-trained engineers
  • Industrial maintenance technicians
  • Mechanical or electrical engineering qualifications
  • Automation or controls-related backgrounds

Additional certifications such as LOTO, Working at Height, MEWP, Confined Space, or First Aid are advantageous, although support may be available for further training where required.
